Arizona Youth Survey: Understanding Our Youth’s Perspectives

The 2024 Arizona Youth Survey (AYS) is a biennial initiative administered to 8th, 10th, and 12th-grade students statewide. It is conducted under the direction of the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission Statistical Analysis Center, in partnership with the Arizona State University School of Criminology & Criminal Justice. The AYS provides valuable insights into youth behaviors and experiences, helping us better understand and support our young community members.

  • The survey focuses on various aspects of student engagement, including substance use and problem behaviors at school and in other settings.
  • The survey assesses more than 20 risk and protective factors associated with these behaviors, such as school environment, peer affiliations, and victimization experiences.
  • Student participation is entirely voluntary and anonymous, ensuring their privacy and comfort.
  • AYS results benefit schools in that they receive a free confidential report summarizing their student population’s characteristics in comparison to statewide norms.

The 2024 Arizona Youth Survey is a powerful tool for understanding the experiences and challenges faced by our youth. By participating, schools, parents, and students contribute to creating a safer and more supportive environment for our young community members.
